Chisinau, 23 January /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu, along with the bashkan (governor) of Gagauzia, Irina Vlah, today visited the Luceafarul theoretical lyceum from the southern Vulcanesti town. The lyceum is the only one where the subjects are taught in Romanian from this settlement. A number of 380 pupils study and 40 teachers work at this lyceum, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The PM had a discussion with the teachers and pupils of the lyceum, during which the institution’s problems and expectations from the government were tackled.
The teachers informed the prime minister about the difficulties faced, among which the insufficiency of teaching staff, need to repair the school’s roof, lack of modern equipments, as well as the small classrooms. Ion Chicu was also informed that the number of children choosing to study at this school had increased on the last period.
The PM thanked the teachers for enthusiasm and dedication. “I bow down before the people who dedicated themselves to the profession of teacher. The salaries in education will grow by at least ten per cent. This is less than you deserve; in continuation, we will come up with every support possible to back you,” the prime minister stressed.
Ion Chicu noted that the education was a priority on the government’s agenda. “You, the young people, represent the hope of this country. We should everybody mobilize to find solutions and edify a prosperous future for all our children here, at home. If we do not make substantial investments in education now, we will not advance,” the official added.
