Moldovan parliament speaker has meeting with Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights

Chisinau, 12 March /MOLDPRES/ - The observance of the human rights and freedoms all over Moldova today were discussed at a meeting between Parliament Speaker Zinaida Greceanii and Council of Europe (CoE) Commissioner for Human Rights Dunja Mijatović, then parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
The parliament speaker said that one of the goals of the authorities was that the residents of the districts from the left bank of Dniester enjoy the same rights and freedoms along with the rest residents of Moldova.
The sides fixed as priority in the next actions the protection of the rights of women, children, people with special needs, as well as of the vulnerable groups. Referring to the Istanbul Convention, Greceanii noted that large scale discussions were to be held in the society, with the involvement of all aides interested, in order to get people’s support and a wide awareness of the need to fight the domestic violence and back the victims.
”Certain politicians speak, while we work,’’ Zinaida Greceanii said. The speaker emphasized the good cooperation with the institutions for human rights from Moldova, including the meetings for coordinating the priorities she had in the beginning of the session with the Office of the Ombudsman and the Council for Preventing and Eliminating Discrimination and Ensuring Equality.
In the context, Zinaida Greceanii stressed that all international commitments taken by Moldova would be fulfilled in continuation, including on the dimension of the human rights. She thanked for support in the promotion of the justice reform, provided by the Council of Europe.
Attending the meeting was Justice Minister Fadei Nagacevschi. Also today, Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Dunja Mijatović had a meeting with the members of the parliament’s commission for human rights.
