Another 70 new COVID-19 cases registered in Moldova in last 24 hours

Chisinau, 1 April /MOLDPRES/ - As many as 329 biological samples today were processed at the laboratory of the National Public Health Agency (ANSP), of which 70 proved to be positive.  Thus, there are 423 confirmed cases of new-type coronavirus in all. Health, Labour and Social Protection Minister Viorica Dumbraveanu made statements to this effect after a today’s meeting of the single command centre for the management of the crisis triggered by the COVID-19 virus.

The minister informed that two of all confirmed cases were of import and the rest – of local transmission. Most cases are from Chisinau and Stefan Voda.  

At the same time, one death of COVID-19 was recorded on the left bank of Dniester in the last 24 hours.  

Viorica Dumbraveanu noted that the tests for coronavirus were made both at ANSP laboratories and at private ones, where people willing to make testing can appeal.  

Attending the briefing, Prime Minister Ion Chicu stressed that the peak of the infection with coronavirus was expected in mid-April and warned the residents to observe the authorities’ instructions on the state of emergency period.   

The PM repeatedly appealed to the clergy. ‘’We have information that some priests continue officiating religious services. I should say that we have more contaminated priests and in the case of the one from Chisinau, his children were contaminated too. I urge you to observe the authorities’ instructions and pray to God at home, so as not to put at risk the relatives,’’ the prime minister said.  

The official also demanded that the residents of the towns and villages which are in quarantine regime prove discipline and comply with the authorities’ orders.

State of emergency is declared on the entire territory of Moldova on the period 17 March -15 May 2020, given the COVID-19 pandemic.
