Moldovan citizens' repatriation in conditions of COVID-19 pandemic

Chisinau, 10 April /MOLDPRES/ - The repatriation and assistance of Moldovan citizens at risk abroad is a major goal of the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry (MAEIE) and of the diplomatic missions of Moldova. Thanks to the efforts by the Ministry and the diplomatic missions, over 8,000 Moldovan citizens were repatriated from more countries till 9 April 2020, the MAEIE public diplomacy, strategic communication and media interaction service has reported.
Following the restrictive measures of travel, imposed by other states, in order to combat the spread of COVID-19, Moldova’s diplomatic missions carried out 94 repatriation missions, 29 by air and 65 by land. As a result, 8,061 Moldovan citizens have been repatriated.
Repatriation missions organized: Ukraine – 29 land missions– 2,920 citizens; Romania - 28 land missions – 1,308 citizens; France - 6 charter flights – 1,280 citizens; United Kingdom - 5 charter flights – 1,006 citizens; Russia - 6 charter flights 986 citizens; Austria - 2 land ones – 183 citizens; Hungary - 2 land ones – 337 citizens; Italy - 2 charter flights – 361 citizens; Czech Republic - 2 charter flights - 314 citizens; Austria - 1 charter flight - 83 citizens; Ireland - 1 charter flight -220 citizens; Germania - 1 charter flight - 215 citizens; Egypt - 1 charter flight – 180 citizens; Israel - 1 charter flight - 156 citizens; Turkey - 1 charter flight – 155 citizens; Poland - 1 charter flight - 151 citizens; Spain - 1 charter flight – 93 citizens; United Arab Emirates - 1 charter flight - 65 citizens; Baltic Countries - 1 charter flight - 58 citizens; Portugal - 2 charter flights – 277 citizens; Belarus - 1 land mission– 14 citizens; Bulgaria - 1 land mission – 3 citizens.
It is worth mentioning that the following repatriation charter flights have been approved for 13-18 April: Rome-Chisinau; Amsterdam-Chisinau, Venice-Chisinau, Paris-Chisinau, London-Chisinau, Berlin-Chisinau.
Starting from 29 March 2020, Moldovan citizens have been able to register on waiting lists for repatriation charter flights, by accessing the proper link for each state on the webpages of Moldova’s diplomatic missions and consular offices.
