As many as 164 new COVID-19 cases registered in Moldova in last 24 hours

Chisinau, 22 April /MOLDPRES/ -As many as 696 biological samples have been processed in Moldova in the last 24 hours, of which 164 ones proved to be positive. Thus, there are 2,778 confirmed cases of new-type coronavirus in all. Health, Labour and Social Protection Minister Viorica Dumbraveanu made statements to this effect after a today’s meeting of the Single Command Centre for the management of the crisis triggered by the COVID-19 virus.  

According to Dumbraveanu, five cases are of import, from Poland and Russia and 159 – with local transmission. Most infection cases were recorded in Chisinau, Stefan Voda, Edinet, etc. A number of 560 people have been treated so far and 75 died.  

Attending the meeting, President Igor Dodon said that the relaxation of some sectors of the economy would be made gradually, with break of two weeks and on 24 April the Moldovan leadership would hold a meeting to decide which sectors resume working next week. Dodon also said that he would have meetings with the business associations, in order to discuss the economic crisis post-COVID-19 and would also meet farmers hit by the drought.    

The president also said that, on the days to come, testings would be massively made in hotbeds and new laboratories would be activated. Dodon noted that, at the moment, Moldova had in stocks 100,000 tests for detecting the new-type coronavirus.  

State of emergency is declared all over Moldova on the period 17 March – 15 May 2020, given the COVID-19 pandemic.
