Moldova, UN Food and Agriculture Organization to sign agreement on assistance for prevention of soils' degradation

Chisinau, 29 April /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet members today approved a decision on starting negotiations and approving the signing of the agreement between the government of Moldova and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), in order to implement the project titled, Creation of a friendly environment of policies for the integrated management of natural resources and implementation of an integrated approach for the achievement of neutrality of degradation of soils in Moldova (GCP/MOL/006/GFF).    

The agreement between the Moldovan cabinet and FAO for the carrying out of the aforementioned project represents an understanding on the technical assistance, which provides for the prevention of soil’s degradation through integrated management of natural resources and enforcement of an integrated approach for achieving the neutrality of lands’ degradation in Moldova.   

The agreement on the implementation of the technical assistance project will be signed by Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Minister Ion Perju and the representative of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization in Moldova Raimund Jehle.    

In the last three years, FAO has provided Moldova with support through implementation of more projects nationally and five projects regionally, focused on food safety, health of animals and plants, protection against drought.
