Moldova's European Business Association presents proposals to government for backing private sector

Chisinau, 30 April /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu today discussed with the head of the European Business Association (EBA), Laszo Diosi, and the EBA executive director, Mariana Rufa. The discussion was focused on the economic impact of the actions undertaken for combating the COVID-19 epidemic, both nationally and globally.
According to the government’s communication and protocol department, the EBA representatives appreciated the open dialogue with the cabinet on this period and unveiled to the PM a string of proposals and measures for supporting the private sector.
The prime minister welcomed EBA’s involvement and urged the business environment to understand the social and economic circumstances triggered by the epidemic and the restrictive measures imposed for combating the spread of the infection. The PM confirmed the intention to preserve a constructive dialogue with the business environment and identify solutions for the preservation of jobs and stimulating the development.
Ion Chicu referred to the budget deficit worth 16.2 billion lei, which implies big investment programmes in the road infrastructure and agriculture, meant to determine the country’s modernization. The public investments are meant to prompt Moldova’s modernization, to encourage the entrepreneurial spirit, open opportunities of employment including for the fellow countrymen who returned home and maintain consumption. The government considers possibility of subsidizing the interest on the loans provided to economic agents, as well as other support measures. The government maintained the state’s capacity of payments and did not allow the depreciation of the national currency.
The PM accepted to participate in a meeting with the EBA members, immediately as the epidemiological situation allows this.
