Moldovan premier chairs meeting on evolution of projects backed by top European bank

Chisinau, 4 May /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu today summoned a meeting to consider the progress of the projects backed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in Moldova, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

Presently, EBRD supports in Moldova the carrying out of 45 projects, which imply the investment of 543 million euros for the restoration and construction of roads, rehabilitation and construction of railway infrastructure and buying rolling stock, modernization and construction of energy infrastructure objects, projects on drinking water and sewerage supply, building of streets illumination networks, etc.   

The participants in the meeting confirmed as priority investments in the national infrastructure, in order to support investment intentions in the industrialization of Moldovan districts, investments in the creation of infrastructure for the collection and processing of solid waste.   

EBRD prepares a support package for the states hit by the COVID-19 epidemic. 

Among the projects financed by EBRD in Moldova, there are projects on rehabilitation of roads in the third phase, with a budget of 181.2 million euros and the implementation period till 30 December 2022, as well as the project on roads’ restoration phase IV, with a budget of 315.5 million euros and an implementation period till 31 May 2024.

The phase III regards the rehabilitation of the road segments M2 Chisinau-Soroca-border with Ukraine; R14 Balti-Sarateni-M2; R1 Chisinau-Ungheni-Sculeni-border with Romania; M3 Chisinau – Comrat – Giurgiulesti-border with Romania.   

The phase IV regards the restoration of 213 km of national road, in order to back Moldovan districts’ industrialization.
