Moldova's Civil Aviation Authority asks Avia Invest Ltd to pay debt worth over 22 million lei

Chisinau, 6 May /MOLDPRES/ - The Civil Aviation Authority (AAC) has demanded opening a file on the enforcement for the non-payment of a debt worth 22,348,958.94 lei by the Avia Invest Ltd.

According to a press release issued by AAC, on the period 2017-2019, Avia Invest Ltd, the company concessionaire of the Chisinau International Airport, accumulated a debt worth more than 118 million lei to AAC. The concerned debt appeared as a result of the non-payment during 18 months of the bills for the ‘’supervision and maintenance of the conditions of certification of airports.’’

To recover the aforementioned debt, more civil cases were instituted in court and as a result, on 5 July 2019, a transaction contract was signed between AAC and Avia Invest Ltd. Under the concerned contract, with the subsequent amendments and completions, Avia Invest committed to pay off the debt to AAC by monthly payments, according to a schedule agreed upon by common consent. For last April, Avia Invest Ltd was obliged to transfer an installment of 11,158,980.06 lei on the treasury account of AAC in the state budget till 30 April 2020. Yet, the debtor, Avia Invest Ltd did not pay the installment on the due date.

Thus, on 1 May 2020, the sum of the due debt, according to the transaction contract, is of 22,348,958.94 lei. Proceeding from this, AAC on 5 May 2020 asked the bailiff to open the file on enforcement, with the application of ensuring measures, for the due sum against the debtor Avia Invest Ltd.

According to AAC, these debts have been accumulated on the period when the Chisinau International Airport worked in normal conditions, with a rising traffic of passengers and the concerned sums were collected by Avia Invest Ltd from passengers, in order to be transferred to the state budget, but were used on other purposes. At the same time, AAC records debts amounting to more than six million lei also for current payments, for supervision taxes for last February and March.
