Chisinau, 8 May /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu has conveyed a message dedicated to the Europe Day, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

The message reads:

„Celebrating the peace, unity and, more than ever – the solidarity before the crisis triggered by the Covid-19 pandemic, we mark the Europe Day today.

Seventy five years ago, the mankind was confronting a major challenge – the most terrible war, which remains one of the most dramatic pages of the history. The war, which took tens of millions of lives, proved how valuable are the peace, reason, wisdom, solidarity and wish to edify a better world together.

Robert Schuman said that ‘’ World peace cannot be safeguarded without the making of creative efforts proportionate to the dangers which threaten it. ’’ Thus, 70 years ago, on 9 May, a new form of cooperation and rapprochement between the European states was set, the foundations of the one of the most successful projects of the history – European Union –being laid, with the united and solid Europe reconfirming its historical success at present as well.

The modern history of Europe is, to a great extent, the history of the European Union. A history with a strong emotional charge, which has proved how many things people can do when they unite in solidarity and for cooperation. When they manage to get above the dissensions, to join their efforts before the challenges, transforming the differences into power.

The history of the European Union is a history of a common heritage, of the communion of values, confirming the social and economic progress by giving up egoism and focusing on unity through diversity. Through everything the European Union has become on the period of its existence, the Europe Day becomes, for its part, the occasion to mark the peace, unity and prosperity on the European continent.

These values, along with the ones of democracy and rule of law state, during years have inspired the European construction and I find out, with satisfaction, that also these values are the ones which guide us in the process of development and transformation of our country. Through the attachment showed through the communion of European values and actions undertaken as a result, we are gradually transposing, every day, the European model of development, here at home, in Moldova.

The most important vehicle in this respect is incontestably the Association Agreement, through the implementation of which we advance in our European integration more and more.

I am sure that, after six years of carrying out of its provisions, there are more and more citizens who benefit from them in the daily live. And at the country level, the positive changes brought by the implementation of the Association Agreement and turning to good account of the opportunities of cooperation with the European Union at the bilateral level, especially of the Eastern Partnership, become more and more visible.

Through all achievements got so far, through all the ones which we set to get in the near future, as well as on medium term, we create new conditions for the country’s economic development, in order to enhance the level of well-being of our citizens, for more stability and safety in our future. We get more and more closer to EU, turning to account the political association and advancing on the way of gradual integration into EU’s internal market, provided for by the Association Agreement.

“Europe will not be made all at once, or according to a single plan. It will be built through concrete achievements which first create a de facto solidarity,’’ Schuman said in 1950.

At present, the spirit of solidarity, as an intrinsic value of the European construction, is up-to-date more than ever. And in this difficult period, triggered by the Covid-19 pandemic, which puts to test our health system, generating a major social and economic impact, the European Union, through concrete actions and the assistance provided, is by the side of Moldova and its citizens.

While consistently edifying solid bridges with the European Union, I express hope that, in the long run, the European integration of Moldova will be backed by more other opportunities.

Long live, Europe!”
