Moldovan parliament speaker, president, prime minister lay flowers at Eternity Memorial Complex

Chisinau, 9 May /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Zinaida Greceanii, along with President Igor Dodon and Prime Minister Ion Chicu today participated in an official ceremony of laying flowers at the Eternity Memorial Complex, on the occasion of the Victory Day and commemorating the heroes who died for the Motherland’s Independence, the parliament’s communication and public relations has reported.
The officials commemorated the victims of the World War II by laying wreaths of flowers at the Eternal Fire, at the Star Monument, at the memorial plaques and the grave of the unknown hero, as well as the at the Grieving Mother Monument. The officials stood silent for one minute.
”Last year, we marked the 75th anniversary of Moldova’s liberation from the fascist occupation and today we mark the great 75th anniversary of the Victory. We must never forget the ones we owe the peace and the blue sky, not forget the veterans alive and take care of them, keep the memory for the heroes and convey it to the next generations. This is what we need, those who live on the Earth,’’ Zinaida Greceanii said in the end of the solemn ceremony.
On the occasion of the Victory Day, the parliament speaker today conveyed a message to the citizens, which reads that Victory, to which representatives of more nations had contributed, was marked also at present, after more than seven decades, in the entire area of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and in Europe.
”The liberation of the European nations from the fascist yoke stayed at the basis of the foundation of the current European community. Numerous monuments in the honour of the soldiers liberators are erected in more European cities,’’ the message reads.
At the same time, Zinaida Greceanii showed excited that the people of Moldova, including young people, were keeping the historical memory and veneration to the war’s heroes, by marking the Victory Day, maybe unusually this year.
It is worth to be noted that the Moldovan government has earlier adopted a decision on the organization and carrying out of actions dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Victory Day and commemoration of the heroes who died for the independence of the Motherland. Among the concerned actions, there is the capital repair of the Eternity Complex and awarding the veterans the jubilee medal titled, The 75th anniversary of the Victory over the fascism in the World War II.
Because of the emergency state, established in Moldova on the period 17 March – 15 May 2020, the public events were postponed and some of them are held online.
The 75th anniversary of the Victory of the countries from the anti-Hitler coalition over the Nazi Germany in the World War II is marked this year. More than 300,000 people from Moldova participated in combat actions during this war.
