Chisinau, 9 May /MOLDPRES/ - President Igor Dodon, Parliament Speaker Zinaida Greceanii and Prime Minister Ion Chicu today morning laid flowers at the Eternity memorial complex, on the occasion of the commemoration of the heroes who died for the Motherland’s Independence.

The officials gave speeches after the ceremony.

„We are marking the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory for the defence of the Motherland. We should remember, not forget the heroic deeds of our parents and grandparents. I want to wish good health to the veterans who are still alive. It is regrettable that we cannot organize measures just as we used to do this each year,’’ the head of state said.

Parliament Speaker Zinaida Greceanii stressed that the citizens must keep the memory of those who died in battles. ‘’We should never forget those we owe the peace and this blue sky, including at present. We must keep the memory; it is necessary to the people who live now on the Earth; we should convey it also to the next generations.’’ Greceanii said.

In his speech, the PM said that the Europe Day was celebrated today as well. ‘’Seventy five years ago, the bloodiest war in the history of the mankind ended, a war which took the lives of more than 50 million people. The memory of this holiday, dearly paid with human lives, must last in our hearts,’’ Ion Chicu said.

The officials also posted extended 9 May messages on their pages of social networks. The Victory March, traditionally held on 9 May, this year was postponed, in the context of the emergency state triggered by COVID-19. Thus, it will take place on 24 August.

The Europe Day is marked in Moldova on 9 May as well.
