Moldovan government approves regulation on providing 60 million lei to farmers

Chisinau, 1 December /MOLDPRES/ - The government has approved a regulation on establishing the way of providing Russia’s financial assistance, meant for the partial compensation of the damage caused by the 2020 year drought to the crop of maize and preparing the soil for the 2021 harvest, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The document establishes the procedure of providing, way and process of calculation of the sum of financial assistance, as well as the way the money is distributed. The authority in charge of its carrying out will be the Agency for Intervention and Payments in Agriculture (AIPA).
The compensation will be provided to farmers, whose fields cultivated with maize were hit by the drought at the level of 60 per cent and more. According to estimations, the overall area affected by natural calamities is of 505,000 hectares.
In this respect, the Finance Ministry will allocate 59,730 thousand lei to the Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ministry from the government’s intervention fund.
Following the signing of the Agreement between the Moldovan and Russian Finance Ministries, the cabinet of Moldova received non-refundable financial assistance worth 270 million Russian roubles for backing the farmers hit by the natural calamities from this year.
