Chisinau, 20 December /MOLDPRES/ - Two men have got life sentence and another two men – 25 years of imprisonment, after they had attacked collectors of a Chisinau-based bank.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Causes (PCCOCS), prosecutors appealed the punishments for those four persons, after the court had initially imposed punishments between 13 and 24 years of imprisonment. Recently, as a result of the representation of the state prosecution by the Chisinau District Prosecutor’s Office, the court of appeal accepted prosecutors’ approaches and the defendants’ punishment were changed into tougher ones: two men were sentenced for life, including the leader of the crime ring and another two ones – for 25 years of imprisonment.
According to the quoted source, the four men were working in a par-military structure and committed the offence for which they were charged with particular cruelty. The long consideration of the trial was prompted by the defendants’ attempts to mislead the judicial authority, by denying their guilt and administering of artificial evidence.
The robbery against a vehicle with collectors took place on 30 May 2014. At that time, over 40 shots were made from a machine gun and the car used for committing the crime was abandoned and subsequently fired. The offence resulted in the death of the driver of the attacked vehicle, the wounding of two collectors and a material damage of more than 1.5 million lei.
