Chisinau, 16 December /MOLDPRES/ - Acting Deputy Prime Minister Victor Osipov today had a meeting with U.S. Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Moldova, His Excellency James D. Pettit, the Bureau for Reintegration has reported.
At the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Osipov reiterated the importance of the Moldova-USA partnership. He expressed confidence in the strengthening of the bilateral dialogue, legal framework of the Moldovan-American relations and sectoral cooperation in diverse areas of common interest.
The Moldovan official informed the ambassador on the developments in the Transnistrian file. Osipov praised the adoption of a Declaration on boosting the five-plus-two negotiations by the OSCE Ministerial Council in Belgrade. The deputy prime minister thanked U.S. diplomats for contribution to making the Declaration's text, along with negotiators on behalf of Russia, Ukraine, OSCE chairmanship of Serbia and European Union.
Victor Osipov stressed the need to as soon as possible continue the five-plus-two talks, which represent the basic platform for identifying a political solution to the Transnistrian problem. To achieve this desideratum, Moldova relies a lot on the getting closer of the positions of international partners, including Germany, which takes over the OSCE chairmanship for 2016.
The officials also analysed the results of the Bavarian Conference from last November, focused on the Chisinau-Tiraspol confidence building measures. These outcomes showed capacity to find jointly accepted solutions to current problems from Moldova's Transnistrian region.
Victor Osipov thanked the American nation, in general, for the support provided to Moldova through more assistance programmes, and in particular, for the ones dedicated to the country's eastern districts, in such sectors as transport and road infrastructure, quality medical services, environmental protection, tourism, rural development, etc.
For his part, Ambassador James D. Pettit reiterated the United States' support for the Transnistrian settlement and European integration of Moldova, highlighting the importance to ensure political stability and the governance act.
