Chisinau, 7 January /MOLDPRES/-Dozens of Orthodox Christians gathered at the Birth of God Metropolitan Cathedral in downtown Chisinau today to attend the religious service on the occasion of Christmas according to Julian calendar.
A group of priests, headed by His Eminence Metropolitan Vladimir held a religious service to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.
Metropolitan Vladimir’s Pastoral prayer on Jesus Christ’s birth was read during the service. The prayer says: “Once the divine child comes into the world, he brings peace, joy and good will with him, as Isaiah prophet had spoken for centuries. In the saint joy of Christ’s birth, let us pray ardently that this state of peace, love and joy overwhelm our hearts and lives. Let Christ’s peace be endless all over the world. Let us thank God for his perfect gift and goods he has given to us this year that came to an end and pray that he protects us during the new year, so that we could enjoy beautiful and useful achievements and prove that we are worth our church and the One who was born to save us”.
Christmas is part of the 12 largest royal feasts, and is preceded by a 40-day fast. Children sing carols this day.
