Chisinau, 18 January /MOLDPRES/ - The Prosecutor General's Office (PG) has opened a criminal file for threatening with violence against President Nicolae Timofti, after the Presidency had demanded consideration of the lawfulness of the actions by the leader of Our Party, Renato Usatii, in terms of the protests organised by the latter, including nearby the presidential institution.

A press release issued to MOLDPRES says that the "Prosecutor General's Office examined the petition received from Moldova's Presidency, which demands consideration of the legality of the actions by Renato Usatii. These deeds refer to the carrying out, throughout 2015, of a string of unsanctioned public actions, including nearby units protected by the state, which aim at destabilising the work of the presidential institution and represent an interference with the activity of Moldovan President Nicolae Timofti, threatening him with infliction of bodily harm."

"Following the consideration of the concerned notification and the case's circumstances, the Prosecutor General's Office started criminal proceedings, under the article 349, paragraph 1, of the criminal code (threatening with violence committed against a decision-making person)," the press release says.

For this offence, criminal norms see a punishment in form of a fine from 300 to 1,000 conventional units, 180-hour-long non-remunerated work for benefit of the community or up to two years of imprisonment.
