Chisinau, 22 January /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip demanded more reports and assessments on behalf of institutions on the way various tariffs for services paid by the residents are formed, the government's communication and media relations department has reported.
The prime minister said the citizens must transparently have access to data on the formation of tariffs, should know what they pay for. Filip noted that this subject was one of the principal worries of the citizens, expressed also through protests, and the government was obliged to look for ways due to create a better transparency in this sector. If there are possibilities, the tariffs are to be decreased, by observing the independence of the regulatory agency and the competition principles on the market.
The prime minister initiated meetings and consultations with more institutions on this topic. The first one took place today, with the Economics Ministry and the leadership of the Moldovagaz stock company, which unveiled reports showing possibility to diminish the gas tariffs by up to ten per cent. At the same time, the decision-makers stressed that additional assessments were needed for a final decision, including with the participation of the energy regulatory agency - an institution which is not subordinated to the government.
On 23 January, consultations on the prices for oil products are to be held. "Here, we have the situation at international level, and namely the drop of the oil barrel price. I want to see whether this is reflected in the price the citizens are paying at pump now, and if not, let us see what are the reasons and what we can do," the prime minister specified.
Pavel Filip said the goal of these assessments was to check how the tariffs were formed. "It is possible to ascertain that they were formed correctly, but it is important that we present this data to the residents as well. At the same time, opportunities might be to adjust the tariffs downwards," the prime minister said.
