Chisinau, 11 January /MOLDPRES/- The National Agency for Food Safety (ANSA) will enhance control on imported fish raised in the water reservoirs in the country, ANSA director Gheorghe Gaberi said today.
The official noted that following more notifications, ANSA decided to take increased measures to monitor growth, importing, transporting and marketing of fresh or frozen fish in all trading points in the country.
For his part, ANSA deputy head Ion Toma said that Moldova imported fish infected with intestinal parasites, so mackerel, herring and blue whiting are among most at risk of infestation. “In most cases, these larvae are located in the abdominal cavity, so the fish must be well gutted and prepared at high temperatures to destroy these parasites. The greatest risk of using infected fish in food is when it is consumed raw or under traditional cuisines,” Toma said.
There are 4,000 lakes with fish in Moldova, and only 395 of them are certified by ANSA.
