Energocom company to purchase electricity by 45 dollars/MWh from Kuchurgan power plant

Chisinau, 7 June /MOLDPRES/- Energocom stock company will purchase starting from today part of electricity for the needs of Moldova from Kuchurgan power plant at the price of 45 dollars per MWh. The price is by 10 per cent lower than the one paid to DTEK Trading company (Ukraine) and respectively, the one previously paid.

According to contracts signed between Energocom company and suppliers in 2016, electricity was delivered at 48,995 dollars per megawatt/hour on 1 April 2016-31 March 2017, compared to 67.95 dollars as paid until 1 March 2016.

The Economics Ministry explains that the decision to negotiate and sign the contract with a partner was taken by Energocom as a result of the assessment of energy situation on the market in the region, more advantageous price offer, as well as the diversification of electricity supply sources to the consumers of the country and strengthening the energy security of Moldova.

Moldova is currently purchasing electricity from Ukraine at 49.9 dollars/MWh. Both contracts are valid until 31 March 2018 and guarantee providing Moldova with electricity from both sources.

According to the experts of the energy sector, the diversification of purchasing electricity will allow Moldovan consumers to benefit from most advantageous and secure conditions of electricity supply throughout the contract period.
