Chisinau, 11 July /MOLDPRES/ – An application for visualization of the population and housing census data from 2014 was launched in Chisinau today.
The application, which is a tool for accessing and interactive viewing of census data, was officially launched at a conference dedicated to the World Population Day. The event was attended by the Minister of Labour, Social Protection and Family, Stela Grigoras, and the head of the National Bureau of Statistics (BNS), Vitalie Valcov.
At the opening of the event, Minister Stela Grigoras said that the population census contributed directly to the elaboration and implementation of the effective policy framework for the socio-economic development of Moldova. "The quality and truthful, up-to-date and detailed statistics on the state of the population let us plan actions and develop quality services aimed at the needs of the population and solve the demographic problems of Moldova," said Grigoras.
General Manager of BNS, Vitalie Valcov, said that the census data was for the first time disseminated in an interactive and accessible way to capitalize the huge amount of data collected and to meet the needs of different categories of users.
The new application is intended for people interested in the characteristics of the population, households and dwellings – representatives of the central and local public administration authorities, involved in decision making in the social and economic spheres, as well as non-governmental organizations, representatives of business and academic environments and the general public.
The World Population Day was first marked in 1989 on the recommendation of the United Nations Development Program's Governing Council and aims to highlight issues related to the population, especially those related to family development and planning.
