Moldovan deputy foreign minister attends GUAM Ministerial Meeting

Chisinau, 22 September /MOLDPRES/- Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Lilian Darii, participated on 21 September 2017 in a meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development - GUAM, on the margins of the High-level Segment of the 72nd Session of the United Nations General Assembly, in New York.
The meeting focused on a wide range of issues, such as the strengthening of political, parliamentary and sectorial cooperation within the frameworks of GUAM, the necessity to extend cooperation with other organizations and states, presentation and examination of the financial report of GUAM for the last year.
At the same time, the agenda included topics regarding functioning of the GUAM Free Trade Area, streamlining the GUAM’s activities, as well as the approval of the budget for 2018.

The Organization for Democracy and Economic Development – GUAM was established on May 23, 2006, at the first Summit of GUAM in Kyiv. Cooperation between Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, and Moldova started with the GUAM consultative forum, established on October 10, 1997, in Strasbourg. The main structures and events of the Organization are the following: the annual meeting (Summit) of the Heads of State (supreme body); the Council of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs (the executive body); the Committee of National Coordinators (working body); the Information Office, with the Secretariat being instituted in 2007. In the current year GUAM celebrates 20 years since its foundation.
