Chisinau, 18 January /MOLDPRES/ - Vehicles move in low visibility on roads of the Anenii Noi, Basarabeasca and Criuleni districts, with snow drifts reaching half a metre in places. The National Patrol Inspectorate (INP) has made statements to this effect.
Contacted by MOLDPRES, the head of the INP press service, Alina Bunghez, said that the road traffic was carried out in winter conditions all over Moldova till 13:00. “At present, machines for cleaning snow work on the territory of the three districts,” Bunghez said.
For her part, the press officer of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, Diana Tutu, noted that, till the noon, over 400 firemen and 135 special vehicles had intervened all over the country to prevent risks.
“Today, more transport means were de-blocked by rescuers in the southern and central regions. Twenty seven touring cars with 48 persons, of whom six children, were de-blocked from snow nearby the Susleni settlement, Orhei district. An ambulance was de-blocked from snow by firemen. The car was to come to a patient in the Cobalnea settlement. Another five persons from two transport means received assistance after they had got stuck in snow nearby the Cainari settlement. Firemen made interventions to de-block vehicles stuck in snow at Nisporeni, Soldanesti, Orhei, Hancesti, Dubasari, Cimislia, etc. As many as 275 settlements from 18 districts remain disconnected from power supply till 13:00,” Tutu said.
According to data by the Border Police, because of the heavy snow on the Leuseni-Chisinau highway, movement restriction is imposed for high-tonnage vehicles. The work of the border checkpoints Cișmichioi-Dolinscoe, Ceadar-Lunga-Maloyaroslavets, Ceadar-Lunga-Noviye-Trayani, Mirnoe-Tabaki, Etulia-Nagornoe was ceased.
Traffic restrictions are recorded also through the checkpoint Basarabeasca; they are triggered by a technical defect of the information system of the Ukrainian customs authority.
The State Hydrometeorological Service (SHS) said it was maintaining the Orange Code of heavy precipitation, wind gusting and sleet till today evening.
