UNICEF to further back government's efforts in ensuring children's rights protection

Chisinau, 28 March /MOLDPRES/- Strengthening the coordination and monitoring processes for the implementation of national strategies and action plans on children’s rights protection were approached at a meeting between Secretary General of the government Lilia Palii and new representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Moldova, Desiree Jongsma, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

The sides have reviewed the work initiatives related to various issues on children’s rights protection in the country. The UNICEF representative appreciated the cooperation between central and local public authorities and encouraged further efforts in this respect, reiterating openness for providing the necessary support under the country programme for 2018-2022.

In this context, Palii said that the government is concerned with ensuring respect for the rights of the child and advocates further cooperation. Also, the official stressed the importance of quality monitoring of policy documents made in this respect, taking international best practices, improving inter-sectoral cooperation and evaluating results based on qualitative data.

At the same time, Palii assured that the issues related to eliminating violence against children, various forms of discrimination, development of policies that will contribute to the quality of life of children and diversification of programmes for youth, especially in rural area and Transnistrian region, will continue to be the focus of specialists in the field.

The sides agreed on joint actions due to be taken to ensure an optimal environment for growth and harmonious development of children in Moldova.
