Moldova to have National Day Against Abuse and Illicit Trafficking of Drugs

Chisinau, 28 March /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet of ministers today approved a draft decision of the parliament, put forward as a legislative initiative by a group of MPs, under which the day of 26 June will be established as National Day Against Abuse and Illicit Trafficking of Drugs. The concerned draft is put up in order to encourage young people, as well as residents on the whole to value the health and exclude drugs from their lives.
“The celebration of this day must be the marked, year after year, by specific events, in order to attract public’s attention to these problems. This day may represent an occasion to inform and raise the awareness of residents, to educate citizens in the spirit of fight against the consumption of drugs,” reads an informative note to the draft.
The government backed the proposal that the parliament decision from 1990 on commemorative days, holidays and days off in Moldova be completed with the National Day Against Abuse and Illicit Trafficking of Drugs, “as more attention will be attracted and needed support will be provided in the fight with these major problems, both nationally and through cooperation at the international level.”
According to the Health, Labour and Social Protection Ministry, the consumption of drugs among young people has increased from 8 to 19 per cent in the last years.
