Moldova to sign agreement on cooperation in tourism sector with Romania

Chisinau, 28 March /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet of ministers today ruled to start negotiations on a draft agreement between the Moldovan and Romanian governments on cooperation in the tourism sector.
The agreement provides for favouring the development of cooperation between public institutions and economic agents in the tourism field from Moldova and Romania, through the creation of friendly conditions for attracting investments to back and develop tourism, in line with the national legislation of each side; foundation of joint ventures in the tourism sector; exchange of specialists, groups of delegations and experts in the tourism sector.
Also, the sides plan to provide mutual assistance to open tourism information offices in Moldova and Romania.
The newly proposed agreement will replace an agreement between the governments of Moldova and Romania on collaboration in the tourism field, signed in Bucharest on 16 November 2005.
According to the National Statistics Bureau, the number of Romanian tourists to visited Moldova in 2017 increased by over 6,000 up to 35,950 persons. Romania ranks first among the countries whose citizens visited Moldova as tourists and excursionists. Last year, more than a half (55.2 per cent) of all foreign citizens who crossed the state border, at the entrance in Moldova, respectively 3.9 million persons, were from Romania.
