Moldovan premier vows to personally keep control of construction of Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline

Chisinau, 28 March /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip today had a meeting with Romania’s Minister of Economy Danut Andrusca, on a visit to Moldova on the occasion of the signing of a contract on privatization of the state enterprise Vestmoldtransgaz by the Romanian company Transgaz.
According to the government’s communication and protocol department, the sides said that this contract was a historical one and ensured the prolongation of the Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline up to Chisinau, which will enhance the energy security of Moldova. PM Pavel Filip said that he would personally verify the carrying out of the project, in order to ensure its good implementation. The construction of the Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline is to start in the beginning of the next summer.
The prime minister ascertained the excellent political dialogue between the sides. He noted that Romania had been and would remain the most consistent backer, both of efforts to implement the domestic reforms and of the political and diplomatic steps undertaken by Moldova in the context of carrying out the European agenda. A proof of the special relation between the countries is the fact Romanian PM Viorica Dancila had paid her first visit to Chisinau after taking over the mandate.
Romania remains the main commercial and economic partner of Moldova. As many as 1,678 enterprises with Romanian capital work in Moldova and the investments in the registered share capital amount to 697 million lei. Romania ranks sixth in a ranking of states which invested in the registered share capital of Moldova and is on the first position in terms of the number of enterprises in which it invested. The PM highlighted, in particular, the coming of the Romanian bank Transilvania to the banking sector, which represents a signal that the situation on the Moldovan financial and banking market has been stabilized.
In the context, the sides spoke out for signing an additional protocol on the mutual protection of investments, which will boost the bilateral relations even more. This document might be signed at a next joint meeting of the Chisinau and Bucharest governments.
The officials emphasized also the fruitful cooperation in the electric energy sector, in order to carry out the interconnection of the electro-energy system of Moldova with the one of Romania. At the same time, the PM thanked the Romanian side for the constant assistance provided to Moldova to repair kindergartens, social and cultural institutions, work of the Mobile Emergency Service for Resuscitation and Extrication (SMURD), as well as for the implementation of other important projects.
