Chisinau, 29 March /MOLDPRES/ - The Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) has informed that it would back the candidacy of the leader of the Dignity and Truth Platform Party (PPDA), Andrei Nastase, for the Chisinau mayor office. PAS leader Maia Sandu made statements to this effect at a news conference today.
“We urge all pro-European forces to support a common candidate, Mr. Andrei Nastase. Separately, our chances will be lower, while united we will be stronger. Time is ripe to act united, in order to have a country where the law works for everybody,” Maia Sandu said.
For his part, Andrei Nastase thanked PAS for the support and confidence provided. “Due to the political maturity of the pro-European and democratic forces, we come to the society with a single candidate, determined to get involved in the struggle for the country’s capital. The more united we will be, the weaker our competitors will be,” Nastase noted.
The two formations are to create joint electoral staffs and the candidates will be nominated by a bilateral commission.
The new local polls will be held in Chisinau on 20 May 2018.
So far, the Liberal Party (PL) has put up for this office Valeriu Munteanu, and the Party of Socialists (PSRM) put forward the head of the (PSRM) faction in the Chisinau Municipal Council, Ion Ceban. At the same time, the Democratic Party of Moldova informed that it would back a single pro-European candidate.
The former Chisinau mayor, Dorin Chirtoaca, resigned from office in last mid-February, being suspected of influence peddling in a file on paid parkings and abuse of office.
