Chisinau, 30 March /MOLDPRES/ - The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) today set up the second-level district electoral councils for the organization and holding of the new local polls due in the Chisinau and Balti municipalities on 20 May 2018.

Under the Electoral Code, during three days, the district councils are to elect from their members, by secret vote, their head, deputy head and secretary, by observing the gender balance. At the time, the councils are to make public the information on the place, date and time of receiving the document for the registration of candidates for mayor office by 24 hour before the starting of the reception of the documents from the electoral contenders.

Also today, CEC established the ceiling of the financial means which can be transferred to the account Fond Electoral (Electoral Fund) of the electoral competitor at the new local polls. The ceiling was calculated separately for each settlement, proceeding from the coefficient of 24.49 lei for one voter. Thus, the ceiling for the Chisinau municipality is more than 18 million lei; Balti municipality – three million lei; Leuseni village, Hancesti district – 52,000 lei, Nemteni village, Hancesti district – 42,000 lei; Jora de Mijloc village, Orhei district – 93,000 lei; Volovita village, Soroca district – 46,000 lei and Parlita village, Ungheni district – 124,000 lei.

When setting the coefficient, decision-makers took into account the average salary on the economy for the previous year, with the size of the coefficient being 0.5 per cent of the average salary – over 5,600 lei; thus, the calculated coefficient is of 28.49 lei.

Also at the today’s meeting, CEC established the quantum of the no-interest loan provided to the electoral contenders in the new local polls: to each party, social and political organization, electoral bloc – 25,000 lei, and to each independent candidate – 5,000 lei.

On 20 May, new local elections of mayors will be held in seven settlements: Chisinau and Balti municipalities, Leuseni and Nemteni villages from the Hancesti district, Volovita village, Soroca district, Jora de Mijloc village, Orhei district and Parlita village, Ungheni district.
