Moldovan PM chairs meeting of Economic Council

Chisinau, 30 March /MOLDPRES/ - The Economic Council’s (CE) actions during 2017 to improve the business environment and priorities for this year were considered at a today’s meeting chaired by Prime Minister Pavel Filip, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The prime minister stressed the Council’s role in settling the problems faced by the business environment. “This is a platform where all points of view are taken into account and common mind is reached,” the PM said. Pavel Filip thanked business community’s representatives for active involvement in the improvement of the framework regulating the business environment. At the same time, he highlighted the valuable contribution of the development partners and the interest displayed by the civil society.
Among the reforms underway in the last year with the support and expertise of CE, there are the reform of the institutions with control duties, simplifying the procedures of reporting, cutting the number of permissive acts, enforcement of the concept of single window and improvement of the Labour Code.
Entrepreneurs’ wish to be members of the Council also speaks about the efficiency of this platform. In 2017, the number of the platform’s members increased from 57 to 71. Also, during the last year, new working groups were created, in charge of the improvement of Moldova’s position in international economic rankings, of developing the labour market and reducing the unregistered labour and the phenomenon of “envelope salaries.”
The development partners who support the work of CE’s Secretariat appreciated the Council’s actions, noting that the results achieved were due to the constant support on behalf of the cabinet. “The success of the Economic Council is provided by the government’s commitment to involve also the private sector in the working out of state’s policies,” World Bank Country Manager for Moldova Ana Akhalkatsi has said. At the same time, the foreign partners expressed openness to further back the activity of the Economic Council, in order to maintain an efficient dialogue between the authorities and the business environment.
Among the goals of the work of the Economic Council for this year, there is the reform in the constructions sector; changing the legislation as to the sanctions’ system; facilitating the getting of the work permits for foreign investors. Also, increased attention will be provided to fight the informal employment, facilitation of the export procedures and strengthening the relations between economic agents and local authorities.
