Chisinau, 2 April /MOLDPRES/- Over 100 people from Gagauzia, who could not benefit from social assistance, amounting to 800 lei, have been reinstated after the Ombudsman’s intervention. Ombudsman Mihail Cotorobai made the statement today.
According to Cotorobai, in 2017 the ombudsman considered several complaints, largely related to the violation of the right to fair justice, healthcare and a clean environment.
“One of the most serious cases on which we conducted individual investigations is that of Andrei Braguta, who died in the penitentiary, and that of Adelina Bulat. After examining these cases, we set that the minimum guarantees of citizens were violated and we came up with a string of recommendations to the authorities,” Cotorobai said.
The ombudsman said that over the past year, several people complained that their right to healthcare and a clean environment had been violated.
“Environmental problems have been reported at the Bubuieci waste polygon. There we even had mediation talks with the authorities and people, but such situations are more in the country. The problem of water quality is the same, an important one for Moldova, because only 30 per cent of the country’s population has access to centralized water sources,” Cotorobai added.
Last year, following the intervention of the Ombudsman, a family of four children from Gotesti village, Cantemir district, after a dozen years of waiting, received a building batch from the mayoralty. Also, following the ombudsman’s addressing, hepatitis-related detainees will benefit from state treatment.
