Moldovan Democrats to propose amending legislation on transparency of interest rates on microfinance

Chisinau, 3 April /MOLDPRES/- MPs of the Democratic Party of Moldova will submit a legislative initiative on the transparency of interest rates on microfinance in the coming days. PDM spokesman Vitalie Gamurari made the statement today.

According to Gamurari, the project will help citizens know from the outset the real interest they will pay and not find out that they pay interest rates several times higher than those originally communicated to them. He added that the document will include provisions on setting sanctions for microfinance companies hiding real interest rates.

“It has been decided that the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research should start consultations with parents’ associations and pupils and find a way in which this initiative could be put into practice. Also, talks will take place with the representatives of education system on the matter. At the same time, the government was asked to come up with an analysis on providing financial support to socially vulnerable families when purchasing school uniforms, if this initiative is to be adopted,” Gamurari said.

An analysis of PDM initiatives, those already implemented and those under implementation, was presented at today’s meeting.

“Projects such as meal vouchers, first home, are already achieved in terms of legislation, now they are under effective implementation and monitoring of how they are being implemented. Also, the government reform and pension reform are being carried out, as well as emergency number 112, anti-propaganda law, draft on tightening punishment for those who alter the doctors, legislative amendment on policemen can no longer remove car registration plates, school closures have been stopped, these are just a few of PDM projects,” Gamurari said.
