Chisinau, 3 April /MOLDPRES/- The Democratic Party of Moldova maintains its stance on the new local elections in the capital and regrets that the pro-European parties do not cooperate with each other to nominate a single candidate. PDM spokesman Vitalie Gamurari made the statement today.
During the meeting, it was discussed the decision of Maia Sandu to support candidate of DA Platform Andrei Nastase at the new local elections.
“It is about a bi-party candidate, not a single candidate, unfortunately. In this context, we regret that according to surveys, Mrs. Maia Sandu would have more chances to win in front of the Socialist Party’s representative in this election campaign. We expected the initiative to come from her. You know that the Democratic Party came first with the initiative to start the negotiations for election of a single candidate from the pro-European parties in the Chisinau elections,” he said.
He added that PDM regrets the decision of the pro-European parties to come up with a candidate without consulting the other parties. “The presidential mistake is repeated, when basically the unwillingness to cooperate with the pro-European parties resulted in the election of Igor Dodon. If this lack of unity continues to exist, there is a risk that the Chisinau city hall will be given to the Party of Socialists,” he said.
Gamurari announced that his party will continue to follow the trends in this context, and reiterated that the Democrats remain in the same position they have previously announced.
