PACE co-rapporteurs pay visit to Moldova

Chisinau, 03 April /MOLDPRES/ – Speaker of Parliament, Andrian Candu, had a meeting today with co-rapporteurs of the Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Egidijus Vareikis and Maryvonne Blondin, paying a visit to Moldova on 02 – 05 April, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.

The Speaker of Parliament made a review of developments in Moldova, thanking co-rapporteurs for decision to go to Comrat. In the context, he mentioned that cooperation group between the Parliament and the People's Assembly in Gagauzia is functioning, as well as internship programme for officials from autonomy of Parliament of Moldova. Speaking about the importance of collaboration, Andrian Candu referred to projects to improve media law, including the new code developed by civil society on the platform created by Parliament with the support of foreign partners.

There were addressed some other topics, such as – justice reforms, integrity package, civil society development, fight against corruption and regulations to encourage women's involvement in decision-making and political processes.

The aim of the co- rapporteurs' visit is to assess degree of honouring obligations and commitments undertaken by Moldova towards the Council of Europe.

According to programme, PACE co-rapporteurs will also have meetings with Prime Minister, Pavel Filip, and President, Igor Dodon. The agenda also includes separate meetings with heads of parliamentary factions, CNA Director, head of Constitutional Court, Prosecutor General, chairman of CEC, chief of BCC, civil society and mass media, as well as extra – parliamentary parties.
