Period provided to investors for power plants’ construction extended in Moldova

Chisinau, 05 April /MOLDPRES/ – The period offered to investors for construction of power plants has been extended from 24 to 36 months, according to amendments and supplements to the Law on promotion of use of energy from renewable sources, which will be published in the Official Journal of Moldova on 06 April.
The rectifications aim at harmonising national renewable energy legislation with EU’s acquis by translating elements of energy package III.
The are also established new support mechanisms for production and use of energy from renewable sources, as well as other elements related to ensuring functioning and development of the sector in Moldova.
The changes will provide more clarity to investors in the field of renewable energy and correlate provisions of the respective law with legislation on electricity and natural gas.
Similarly, the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE) will have competence to confirm eligibility status of project developers being interested in investing into renewable energy technologies in Moldova.
Also, there were introduced notions of performance guarantee of contract, offer guarantee and guarantee for participation in the legislation.
The government will set the rules for organising and conducting capacity tenders for production of electricity from renewable sources so as to promote competition among major investors.
This law entered into force on 25 March.
