Chisinau, 8 April /MOLDPRES/ - The Orthodox Christians today celebrate the Easter – the holiday of light and joy, regarded as the greatest holiday of the Christianity, which signifies the Resurrection of the Lord.
On the Easter night, thousands of Moldovans went to church to take the Holy Light brought from Jerusalem by a delegation led by Metropolitan of Moldova Vladimir.
After taking the Holy Light, the Christians went to their homes, where they prepared food products in baskets, which they brought to church in the morning to be blessed.
Priests from all over Moldova greeted Christians with Christ has Risen and urged them to be more righteous and generous and not forget about the sacrifice made by the Son of God for the people.
‘’For us, the holidays, especially the Christian ones, represent a good occasion to be together with the entire family, especially as a good deal of the members are abroad,’’ Diana Marinciuc told MOLDPRES.
Today morning, Christians wash their cheeks with a white and a red egg. This ritual symbolizes strength and purity. At the same time, believers break red eggs, which signify the new life received through the Blood of the Saviour.
In 2019, the Orthodox Easter will be celebrated on 28 April.
