Chisinau acting mayor to collect signatures to participate in new local polls in Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 10 April /MOLDPRES/ – Acting mayor of Chisinau, Silvia Radu, will collect signatures to take part into new local elections for position of general mayor of Chisinau municipality.
The announcement was made today by Silvia Radu. She said she was going to join local elections as an independent candidate.
"I tell you with all honesty that I want to take part, but decision depends on some main factors, which I hope to solve in upcoming period. But certainly, if decision is to run, I will only do it as an independent participant, however difficult it may be. I will begin collecting signatures on 11 April along with some of my dear persons which had joined me in presidential election campaign," wrote official on a social network.
The interim mayor noted that every day at 18:00 – 20:00 she would be in one of tents set for signatures and discuss with Chisinau citizens on current state of city and actions needed to undertake. "I shall publish location of tent where I intend to go. I want to reach every sector within limit of my time because activity within City Hall is a priority," said Silvia Radu.
The new local elections will take place on 20 May. Until present, nine candidates have been nominated for that position, including leader of the Platform DA (Dignity and Truth), Andrei Nastase, supported by PL (Liberal Democrats) and PAS (Action and Solidarity Party), Valeriu Munteanu, forwarded by liberals and Ion Ceban, from socialists party. Also, PDM (Democratic Party of Moldova) announced to support a pro – European joint candidate.
Former mayor of Chisinau, Dorin Chirtoaca, resigned in mid – February.
