Moldovan PM, representative of UN Population Fund consider preparations for 2020 world round of censuses

Chisinau, 10 April /MOLDPRES/ – There were discussed today preparations for Population and Housing Census and the General Agricultural Policy, World Round 2020, as well as measures to improve demographic situation in Moldova at a meeting of Prime Minister, Pavel Filip, with representative of UN Population Fund in Moldova, Rita Columbia, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
Prime Minister, Pavel Filip, referred on importance of conducting a well – organised, censored, accurate data as to serve basis for drafting policy documents for work of Executive. As such, PM asked mobilisation of authorities to prepare census, trace and initiate necessary actions, including identifying technical solution, training involved staff and making census.
Related to it, representative of UN Population Fund in Moldova pointed out necessity to observe all stages in preparation of that exercise, so as to obtain quality data. Rita Columbia mentioned the need to develop collaboration with external partners, including the organisation represented, providing support in preparation and development of censuses.
The meeting focused on organising censuses and surveys. It opts for data collection throughout mobile devices, by the Internet self – reviewing. "By using IT, we only have to gain – it is a much safer way and data will be processed more quickly and used for efficient planning," said Premier, Pavel Filip. Regarding year of census, opportunity to carry out census of population and dwellings is examined in 2021, followed shortly by general agricultural census.
Another topic addressed by participants in discussion is about demographic situation in Moldova and challenges such as decreasing fertility rates, increasing life expectancy, demographic aging and migration. In that respect, it is desirable to improve quality of policies in the field, by creating opportunities in labour market, education and raising the standard of living.
In this context, head of the Executive said that all those issues should be addressed in a complex mode. "These ones are also based on level of life and services offered to population. As to make social investments, government must have financial capacity, while this requires discipline and reforms. I am sure we are moving in the right direction, reforms are working and we must continue in the same way," said Premier.
