National strategy for preventing, combating domestic violence to be published in Official Journal of Moldova

Chisinau, 12 April /MOLDPRES/- The national strategy for preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence for 2018-2023 and the action plan for its implementation will be published in the Official Journal of Moldova.
The document sees the promotion of zero tolerance towards all forms of violence, informing society about this phenomenon, reviewing legislation in line with international standards and expanding the range of specialized services for victims of domestic violence.
Under the document, the functionality of the free telephone support service for victims of domestic violence and violence against women will be ensured, violence victims will be facilitated in employment and counseling services will be developed within the Community Mental Health Centres.
Among the main actions are the following: organizing regular courses for mayors in preventing and combating violence, working out an intersectoral mechanism for intervention in cases of violence and ensuring access to justice for victims of violence.
According to the General Police Inspectorate data, annually there are about 3,000 cases of domestic violence, of which 1,000 are crimes. About 40 women lose their lives as a result of domestic violence, and four of them are due to suicide.
