Chisinau, 12 April /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip today participated in the 11th issue of the Security Forum in Kiev. At a joint session with prime ministers of Ukraine and Lithuania, Pavel Filip referred to the threats to regional security, dialogue as instrument of balance and need of joint efforts to preserve the regional and international order.
According to the government’s communication and protocol department, the PM stressed that the most serious risks in terms of security in the region were triggered by the frozen conflicts and the foreign military presence. “The foreign military presence represents a serious obstacle to the peaceful settlement of the conflict, taking into account that this contributes to the conservation of the conflict situation, encouraging the destructive forces to persevere in the promotion of their breakaway plans,” the prime minister said.
Pavel Filip reiterated that Moldova consistently declared for the unconditional withdrawal of the Russian military forces from its territory and for turning the current peacekeeping operation at Dniester into a multinational civilian mission, with international mandate. A priority remains the working out and adoption of a special legal status for Transnistria, by the observance of Moldova’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. “This concept or vision of settlement must make sure that the future reintegrated state is viable and oriented on the way of the democratic reforms and European integration,” Pavel Filip said.
At the same time, Moldova will further support Ukraine’s efforts for overcoming the Donbas crisis and solving the problems of Crimea by political and diplomatic means, for the re-establishment of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
In conditions of the present security risks, Prime Minister Pavel Filip said that it was essential to develop the cooperation with EU, especially within the Eastern Partnership, in order to strengthen the resilience of the state and society. This should be done including through actions regarding the combating of propaganda and strategic communication, consolidating the mass media and the civil society.
“We need a clearer commitment, a stronger and more visible one in the settlement of crisis situations in the region. It is our common interest to ensure an enhanced predictability and stability in the Eastern Europe region,” Pavel Filip stressed.
The Kiev Security Forum, initiated by the Open Ukraine Foundation of Arseniy Yatsenyuk in 2007, is a platform of discussion on the most pressing security issues in Europe and Black Sea region. More than 400 politicians, diplomats, business people, activists and experts from over 20 countries were invited to the 2018 issue of the forum.
