Speaker of Parliament speaks at UN about promoting road safety in Moldova

Chisinau, 12 April /MOLDPRES/ – "Moldova is committed to promoting and ensuring road safety. We are aware of problem in all its complexity, as well as its consequences for the country. All new infrastructure projects should contain new road safety criteria," said Speaker of Parliament, Andrian Candu, today at UN tribune of UN General Assembly Meeting on Road Safety, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.

Andrian Candu, in his speech, highlighted undertaken steps to reduce number of victims of traffick and importance of prevention measures including legislative instruments, road infrastructure standards and education.

The number of road accident victims can be low and intact families expected at home if we take into account new road safety requirements, infrastructure projects and correct education of all road users – from car drivers to children, each one needs a good knowledge of rules and obligation to respect them. Thus, we can reduce fatalities and road accidents that affect us daily. The parliament, government and civil society will continue to work with international partners jointly to ensure safe road infrastructure and increase safety of persons.

Andrian Candu talked about Programme: Good roads for Moldova, released in January 2018, campaign: In arms not safe, promoted by Speaker of Parliament to encourage carriage of children in car seats, as well as parliamentary platform created for insurance implementing best international practices and EU standards in all road safety measures.

As an ambassador for road safety, designated by the Eastern Alliance for Safe and Sustainable Transport, Speaker of Parliament, Andrian Candu referred on need for good cooperation and joint efforts to promote overall objective of reducing number of injured and dead ones in road accidents.

The Speaker's schedule also includes a meeting with UN Deputy Secretary – General, Amina Mohammed. At the same time, Speaker Candu will attend Global Parliamentary Conference of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund in Washington DC. The Speaker will have meetings at the US Congress, USAID, the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, the US Treasury, and the State Department of the United States.
