United States reiterates support for Moldova

Chisinau, 17 April /MOLDPRES/- “We are impressed by Moldova’s efforts to promote reforms, and we encourage you to continue. The US will provide full support for Moldova be closer to the EU and the USA,” Wess Mitchell, Assistant Secretary of State, said at a meeting with Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
According to the US official, Moldova is on the forefront of geopolitical confrontation. “We appreciate the actions taken so far by Moldovan authorities and we will provide more support to Moldova,” Mitchell said.
For his part, Candu thanked the USA for support and presented the government’s actions to ensure the security and prosperity of its citizens. He spoke about joint efforts with civil society, experts and foreign partners to adjust media law to international standards that will ensure freedom of expression, media independence and consumer protection against counterfeiting and propaganda. Candu also recalled the interparliamentary conference in March, when Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine pledged to band together in security issues and European integration efforts.
The Moldovan speaker approached the programmes and reforms meant to ensure de-bureaucratisation of public services, integrity of officials, good and equal conditions for business development, ensuring stability in financial and banking sector and strict rules that prevent and counteract money laundering attempts, as well as several social programmes launched by authorities for equal access to health, education, roads etc.
Mitchell took over as Assistant Secretary of State in October 2017, being responsible for relations with over 50 countries in Europe and Eurasia, NATO, EU and OSCE.
