Chisinau, 17 April /MOLDPRES/ - The U.S. Congress’ Resolution which backs Moldova’s association with the European Union and demands that Russia withdraws its troops and ammunitions from the Transnistrian region has support to be voted, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
Statements to this effect were made at a meeting between Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu and the friendship group of the U.S Congress’ House of Representatives. Congressman, co-chairman of the group David Price reiterated the support for Moldova for efforts to strengthen the democracy, enhance the energy security, pressing ahead with reforms, economic development and protection of the information space.
Speaker Andrian Candu thanked for the support provided by the United States to Moldova. Candu appreciated the determination of colleagues from the U.S. Congress to further back Moldova’s right to take decisions without constraints or pressures from outside.
In Last February, the U.S. Congress registered a resolution, thereby backing Moldova’s fight against misinformation actions carried out by certain East European countries in the national mass media. The documents urge the Russian leadership to withdraw its troops and ammunitions from Moldova’s internationally recognized territory, to abstain from economic threats or from the exercising of pressures on Moldova, as well as to cease any actions which support breakaway movements on the territory of Moldova. The document also specifies that the United States back the process of peaceful reintegration of the region from the left bank of Dniester, by offering it a special status within Moldova.
The Resolution was registered in the U.S. Congress’ House of Representatives by congressmen David Price and Pete Olson.
