One of largest wineries in Moldova recorded impressive increase in exports

Chisinau, 18 April /MOLDPRES/- The Milestii Mici winery recorded an impressive 88.8 per cent increase in exports in the first quarter of this year, compared to the same period of the previous year. One of the largest wineries in Moldova produced a total of 1.4 million bottles of wine.
The main outlet for wines produced in Milestii Mici became China, with 80 per cent of total exports, followed by Poland – 7 per cent, USA -6 per cent, United Arab Emirates – 4 per cent. Smaller quantities were delivered to Latvia and Switzerland.
In the first three months of this year, over 3,500 tourists visited the underground galleries, a quarter more than the same period of last year. 675 excursions and tastings were organized, up by 21 per cent than in the first quarter of 2017. In January 2018, a festival of winter traditions throughout the country –Gerar Fest – was organized on the territory of the winery, and about 2,000 people attended it.
Organizing wine events is an important part of the tourism development strategy as one of the main activity lines of the Milestii Mici winery. To attract new partners for development of tourism, representatives of the winery participated in international exhibitions in Moscow, Berlin and Bucharest.
“In terms of development of the winery, in the near future we intend to purchase electric vehicles for excursions in the underground galleries, to improve the winery infrastructure, expand the vineyard area, produce new series of wines and sparkling wines,” manager of the Milestii Mici winery Viorel Bezede said.
This winery is a state-owned enterprise founded in 1969. It has the largest underground wine gallery in Moldova, with a length of more than 200 km, of which 55 km are used for wine storage. The collection of wines stored in the underground counting 1.5 million bottles was set in the Guinness Book. Since 2005 the winery has been declared by the parliament of Moldova as cultural and national heritage of the country.
