Sixth issue of Jazz’n Chisinau International Festival held in Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 18 April /MOLDPRES/ - Bands and artists from Moldova, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Poland, the USA and Ukraine participate in Jazz’n Chisinau International Festival, the sixth issue. The event started at the Serghei Lunchevici National Philharmonic on 17 April, and will be held till 19 April.
According to the director of the festival, the event’s organizer Valeriu Culea, the goal of the festival is to cultivate a new trend in Moldova’s jazz and to diversify the local jazz. “One of the principal objectives of the festival is to back local instrumentalists and vocalists, who subsequently get involved in cooperation with artists from abroad,” Culea noted.
On the first day of the festival, the bands Aga Derlak Trio (Poland) and Tamara Lukasheva Duo (Ukraine, Germany) performed on the stage. Aga Derlak Trio is a young project launched in 2013, made up of: piano player and composer Aga Derlak, double bass player Tymon Trąbczyński and drummer Szymon Madej. The project Tamara Lukasheva Duo includes vocalist Tamara Lukasheva and drummer Jens Duppe, who was awarded more prizes. The members of the band cooperate with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra from Germany (Bujazzo).
Today, the bands Roman Tulei Trio (Switzerland) and Frederik Köster (Germany) will perform on stage.
More artists, both of Moldova and from abroad, will give concerts on the third day of the festival: singer Deborah Pierre (USA, special guest), Valeriu Culea (piano), Mihaela Handuca (vocal) and Dmitry Sergheev (saxophone) from Moldova, Luca Colussi (drums, Italy) and Ion Varlan (double bass, Poland, Romania).
Due to the support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, concerts and creation workshops will take place in the cities of Balti, Tiraspol and Cahul.
The first issue of Jazz'n Chisinau International Festival was held in 2013. The event is organized in partnership with the Education, Culture and Research Ministry, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, Chisinau City Hall, European Union’s Delegation in Moldova, U.S. Embassy in Moldova, Embassy of Italy in Moldova, German Cultural Centre Akzente, Goethe Institute, Embassy of Poland in Moldova and Adam Mickeiwicz Institute from Poland.
