Chisinau, 19 April /MOLDPRES/- A batch of 1,600 Moldovan pear seedlings was returned from Romania, after phytosanitary experts have identified a quarantine pest. It would reach Bulgaria.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Romania noted that the harmful organism had been identified in the seedlings.
The head of the department for health control of the National Agency for Food Safety, Dumitru Rusu, said that the returned material is part of a batch of 10,000 fruit and decorative plants exported to Bulgaria in late March.
“As a result of the controls carried out in Moldova, no pests or other harmful factors were found. After identifying the harmful organism, the exporter said that this would have resulted from the dehydration of the plants. The material has already been liquidated, as it has dried out and can no longer be used,” Rusu said.
After returning pear seedlings from Romania, other 8,400 plants were transported to Bulgaria.
