American Film Days start in Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 20 April /MOLDPRES/ - The 12th issue of the American Film Days, held on 19-22 April, was inaugurated at the Odeon Culture Centre from Chisinau on 19 April evening.    

Attending the event, U.S. Ambassador to Moldova James D. Pettit said that the title of this year edition was sport and human spirit. “Sport, just as music, theatre and literature, has a very important role in our life. Those nine films of this series have a variety of sports, such as: basketball, baseball, American football and boxing. All these movies are based on real stories, which makes them even more remarkable and full of inspiration,” the American diplomat noted.     

In the first evening, the film, The Pride of the Yankees, made in 1942, was screened. The movie presents the story of life and career of a well-known baseball player, Lou Gehrig. Gehrig played 2,130 consecutive matches, before being killed at the age of 37 by ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), a lethal disease which bears his name at present. During the film, Lou Gehrig is watched from his childhood in New York till his historical speech, The Happiest Man, at the farewell ceremony in 1939.    

Today at 17:00, the film, Invincible, will be screened, at 19:00 – the movie, The Fighter. On 21 April, the film, Hoosiers, will be presented at 14:00 and at 16:30 - the movie 42; the film, Moneyball, will be screened at 19:00.   

The American Film Days in Chisinau will end on 22 April, with the presentation of the movies Cars 3, at 15:00, Friday Night Lights, at 17:00, and Miracle, due at 19:30.  

All nine movies are screened in original, with subtitles in Romanian. The entrance is free.
