Procedure of getting Moldova's citizenship through recognition simplified

Chisinau, 23 April /MOLDPRES/ - The procedure of getting Moldova’s citizenship through recognition has been simplified.
According to the Public Services Agency, the provision is valid for the persons older than 18, who were born in Moldova, no matter whether they hold the citizenship of another state and reside in the country or abroad. The amendments were made to the law on citizenship, which entered into force in late last week.
Thus, persons can be recognized as citizens of Moldova from the moment of submitting the application to this end. The people willing to get the citizenship may address to any service for the issuance of identity cards or multifunctional centre of the Public Services Agency. The people staying abroad can submit applications to diplomatic missions and consular offices of Moldova. At the registration of the application, applicants present the identity card they possess and the civil status documents. The applicants who do not have acts will be identified according to the procedure set by the legislation in force.
Statistics data shows that the getting of Moldova’s citizenship through recognition is the most demanded procedure. About 85 per cent of the applicants opt for this way.
In 2017, over 1,500 applications for getting the Moldovan citizenship were submitted, of which 1,309 ones regarded the getting of citizenship through recognition. A number of 287 applications were registered in the first quarter of 2018, of which 245 were considered according to the procedure of recognition.
