Moldovan foreign minister meets UN Deputy Secretary-General in New York

Chisinau, 24 April /MOLDPRES/- Foreign and European Integration Minister Tudor Ulianovschi, also acting as Chairman of the United Nations Trade and Development Council (UNCTAD), has met UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohamed in New York. The sides discussed the interaction of the institutions of specialized structures in the UN system and the role of UNCTAD in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and aspects of cooperation between Moldova and the UN in this area, the MAEIE’s press service has reported.

Ulianovschi pointed out the critical importance of development funding to achieve sustainable development goals at international and national level. In this context, he highlighted the role of UNCTAD in encouraging the creation and support of different types of partnerships. Identifying and turning to good account funds and financial assistance mechanisms to support sustainable development in emerging economies countries had been described as an indispensable prerequisite for achieving SDGs at national level.

Amina Mohamed said that these goals, especially, facilitating the development efforts of countries such as Moldova, are taken into account and are the basis for the ample process of reforming the UN development system. In the same context, the official noted the efforts of the Moldovan government on sustainable development and assured that these will be further supported by the UN.

Finally, Ulianovschi invited Mohamed to pay a working visit to Moldova.

Ulianovschi attends a high-level meeting of the UN General Assembly on Peacebuilding and Sustaining Peace, as well as the Forum of the UN Economic and Social Council on financing for development, in New York on 23-27 April.
