UN must be more effective in conflict resolution, international peacekeeping - Moldovan foreign minister says

Chisinau, 25 April /MOLDPRES/- Moldova backs the efforts of the United Nations Secretariat aimed at strengthening the UN capacities to prevent conflict and ensure sustainable peace. Foreign and European Integration Minister Tudor Ulianovschi made the statement at a high-level meeting of the UN General Assembly on sustainable peace-building, held in New York, the MAEIE’s pres service has reported.
In his speech, Ulianovschi addressed the importance of the UN’s implementation of a comprehensive approach on conflict prevention based on an integrated vision of peace, security, development and respect for international law and human rights.
Referring to the Transnistrian conflict settlement and the illegal presence of foreign military forces in Moldova, Ulianovschi encouraged a more active involvement of the relevant UN structures in line with the principles of the UN Charter on the protection of sovereignty and territorial integrity of member states.
The Moldovan official voiced hope that the high-level meeting of the General Assembly on sustainable peace-building would help promote the member states’ unity to institutionalize an effective mechanism for conflict prevention and ensure sustainable peace worldwide.
